Ordinal numbers are used to express rank, position, and order of items.
Ordinal numbers are not normally used after 10. For numbers larger tha 11th, it is common to use simply the cardinal number (11, 12, 13, etc ...).

Ordinal numbers are usually placed before nouns. ¿Cuántos
años tiene su primer hijo? how old is your first child? Linda
fue la quinta chica en llegar Linda was the fifth girl to arrive

numbers are placed after the noun whey they refer to royalty, a pope, a street or an avenue.

When ordinal numbers are used with nouns, they must agree in gender
and number with the noun. Ella está en el cuarto añoShe is in the fourth year Ellos son los primeros niños
en la lista They are the first children in the list

and tercero are shortened to primer and tercer
before singular masculine nouns: primer año first year tercer semestre third semester
