EXPRESS LIKES AND DISLIKES

To express likes and dislikes, the verb GUSTAR is used in Spanish. The verb ENCANTAR is used to talk about things you really like or love. These verbs are NOT preceded by a subject pronoun. Instead, these verbs preceded by indirect object pronouns (Me, Te, Le, Nos, Os, and Les).
Ex:

LISTEN

Me gusta hablar
Te encanta comer
Le gusta bailar
Le gusta bailar
Nos encanta cantar
Les gusta estudiar

I like to talk
You love to eat (informal)
He/She likes to dance
You like to dance (formal)
We love to sing
They/You all like to study

The verb endings for GUSTAR and ENCANTAR always agree with the things that is liked or loved.

If one thing is liked:
Me gusta la clase
Te encanta la camisa

If more than one thing is liked:
Me gustan las clases
Te encantan las camisas




I like the class
You love the shirt


I like the classes
You love the shirts

To say someone does not like or love something, say no before the phrase. Ex:

No me gusta cantar
No les encanta estudiar

I do not like to sing
They do not love to study
